Job Description:
The Research Journalist will create original news content based on first hand experience and qualified research. This part-time position (minimum 20 hrs/week) is available to recent college graduates and exceptional college or grad students.
Job Responsibilities:
- Research public projects using government website and live interviews
- Regularly create fact based original news content using an objective tone
- Explain complex issues in a forthright and understandable manner
- Attend various live events in Puerto Rico
- Generate news summaries of live events
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bi-lingual (English and Spanish, written and oral)
- Exceptional writing skills
- Ability to communicate and explain complex issues
- Working proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel) required
- Familiarity with environmental policy, Puerto Rico land use planning and local conservation strategies is a strong plus
- Experience working with or gathering information from Puerto Rico and Federal government agencies including OPGE, DNER and/or EPA
- Strong organizational and time management skills; must be able to independently prioritize, plan and manage multiple tasks
- Reliable transportation to work in Rincón, PR
Desired Qualifications:
- Thorough understanding of ocean & terrestrial conservation issues and experience researching and writing on these topics
- College degree, with preference to planning, sciences, journalism, communications and/or conservation strongly preferred
- Proficiency in Adobe creative software, Photoshop, In-Design, & Illustrator preferred
- Track record of writing or presenting conservation-related, land use or environmental issues
